CHARITY VISIT TO SIVANANDHA ASHRAM KUALA KUBU BHARU

On the 29 December 2007, 12 Indian officer cadets from various intakes made a visit to DLS Vidyalaya Kuala Kubu Bharu. It was organized under the initiative of officer cadet Arvinthan Venugopal. This was basically our first charity program. The planning was done by a group of elected officer cadets among us. It took us nearly 3 months to get this plan running. The main objective of this charity program is to reach out and help the orphanages in the Klang Valley.  The funds for this program were collected from the Indian cadets of UPNM and also we managed to get some sponsors. Basically the funds collected were used to buy school uniforms, shoes, stationeries, workbooks and track suits.

The home is run by the Divine Life Society (DLS). It is also the sub branch of DLS. It was established in the year 1994. Since then, about 150 orphans have passed through its doors. The home is currently taking care of 14 children ages ranging from 7 till 15 years old. The caretaker of this home is Swami Mumukshu. The children here are much disciplined. They have to follow the timetable which is done by the caretaker.

The journey to KKB took us around two and a half hours by the UPNM bus. We were greeted by the Swami and also the children there. They were very happy to receive us. They prepared breakfast for us. After having some with the children, we started our activity. We divided the children into 4 groups, and each group will also have 2 officer cadets to guide them. The 1st session was indoor or groups games. Creative newspaper headline, colouring competition, biggest balloon blown in a single breath, and also connect the words are the indoor games done. Each and every group showed their own creativity to win the heart of the judges.

CONNECT THE WORDS

From classrooms games, we moved on to the outdoor games. The weather was quite hot, so we did it in the ashram hall.  This time we still maintained the same group members. We had games like ping pong ball on spoon, and fill the bottle with water using spoon. This time around, it was a tough competition among the groups. These are a few shots during the games session.

After the games session, it was time to distribute the goodies for the kids. The kids were indeed very happy to receive the stuffs. As the New Year is just about to peek in, new items for school for these kids would really motivate them to study harder. The organizing chairman also gave a closing speech. In his speech, he thanked the home for sparing some time for us to visit them. He also advised the kids to study hard and smart.

DISTRIBUTING GOODIES
We managed to take 1 last group shot before we left. It was indeed a very memorable visit to this home. We plan to organize more visits in the years to come. On behalf of the committee I would like to thank all the members who have participated in this event. I would like to extend my gratitude’s toward our sponsors.
